What is Energy Medicine

Energy medicine is a collective term used to refer to a variety of alternative and complementary treatments based on the use, modification, and manipulation of energy fields. On the level of quantum physics we know that everything is energy. I use the energy fields located in, affecting, or emanating from the body of the animal, identified as biofield energy therapies. The purpose of energy medicine can be broadly defined as the healing of mental, physical, psychology, and/or spiritual disorders by rebalancing the energy fields of the animal or by drawing upon spiritual energies or forces for such healing. Some of the energy based modalities that I use in working with animals are as follows:

Therapeutic Touch (TT) is an effective form of energy medicine that is a non-invasive, gentle method of healing derived from an ancient laying-on of hands to the client. The principle behind TT is restoration of balance and harmony to the energy field, or aura that extends around the body.

Reiki is a gentle, effective energy healing method, which treats the whole individual. With Reiki, the healing energy of the universe flows through the practitioner’s hands to the animal, causing a shift toward health at the deepest levels.

Tellington TTouch is a form of bodywork comprised of a variety of circles, lifts and slides done with the hands and fingertips to enhance overall health and well-being.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) uses tapping on meridian points to assist the release of emotional blocks to health and well-being.  Generally I do not tap directly on the animal but use a surrogate.

Matrix Energetics uses a Two-Point Technique so the practitioner can observe and access the quantum level for transformation and healing.

Animals and Energy Medicine

Animals, including wild animals, intuitively recognize and appreciate energy therapies and their ability to heal. Animals often quickly learn to seek it out on their own. Energy therapies do not cause stress, discomfort, or pain, and yet they yield effective results. Energy therapies can heal at all levels of an animal’s being and can be used for any issue that arises for animals.

What Happens During an Animal Energy Medicine Session

When engaging in an energy medicine session, I generally begin the session a short distance from an animal, rather than with my hands directly on the animal, to give the animal a chance to experience the energy and evaluate it in his/her own way and own time. Animals are more sensitive to energy than people and quickly understand what the universal life energy is and its healing potential. During a session the animal may come close to my hands and move away several times and often end up lying close by or under my hands, showing me which areas are most in need of healing.

After an animal becomes acquainted with the feeling of the universal life energy, he usually becomes very relaxed and often falls asleep for some period of the treatment. Animals frequently show their gratitude by licking my face or hand, nuzzling me, or making happy, satisfied sounds after the session is complete.

With people, energy therapies are most often associated with feelings of peace and deep relaxation and this is true for animals as well. Energy therapies can also be experienced as a sensation of mild heat, vibration, or pulsing, especially when a treatment is given with the healer’s hands directly on the animal.

The results of a session are usually noticed soon after a session or over the following several days to a week. It may become clear that a physical injury or illness was healed more rapidly than expected or that an emotional or behavioral challenge has shifted and released. Deeper or longer-standing challenges may take several treatments to begin to shift and regular treatments for a period of time to facilitate the process of working through and letting go of the issues that need healing.

Energy medicine modalities find the matters that are most in need of healing, and these matters may not be what is expected. Physical issues can have emotional root causes, and when it is in the best interest of the animal, energy work can help him to resolve and release these matters and return to more robust emotional and physical health.
